The big announcement is that Dolly Parton will be performing in Miami on New Year’s Eve. Fresh off her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Parton is looking to bring the house down. And she won’t be doing it alone: Miley Cyrus is coming with her!
In addition to being a musical superstar in her own right, Cyrus is Parton’s goddaughter, and the two have worked together on shows and performances in the past. However, this upcoming show looks to be their biggest collaboration yet.
We know this news because the two ladies in question shared it via Instagram. And each of them made a different post that serves to highlight both their similarities and their differences as celebs.
A duet of announcements
For the Instagram announcements, each of these gals shared the same image. As befitting an eternal and glamorous queen, Dolly Parton wore a golden, sequined, long-sleeve dress with matching heels. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus wore a bodycon black dress and matching heels.
The colors coordinate well and the ladies look amazing together. And it’s tough not to read these looks they are serving as expressions of their performance personalities. Parton, an eternal student of the “go big or go home” philosophy, sports a glitzy look that matches her glamorous persona. Meanwhile, Cyrus, who has reinvented herself a number of times, and recently seemed to take her cues from Joan Jett on the Plastic Hearts album. Is it any wonder she’s rocking Jett-like black attire for the photo?
Cyrus also kept things simple with her Instagram caption, writing simply “#NewYearNewCoHost @dollyparton.” Parton was a bit more expansive, wishing Cyrus a happy birthday before expressing how she “can’t wait to celebrate with you and ring in the new year!! ❤️”
How Miley Cyrus is connected to Dolly Parton
To casual fans, it may be weird to hear that Dolly Parton is teaming up with Miley Cyrus. However, hardcore Dolly fans already know that the veteran performer has been part of Miley’s life from the very beginning!
Dolly Parton is good friends with fellow singer Billy Ray Cyrus. They performed together many times and grew close, and Cyrus eventually asked Parton to be godmother to his daughter. Parton, who has no children of her own, was delighted to accept the responsibility.
In addition to bonding behind the scenes, Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus have performed together for some major events. This includes performing “Jolene” at the 2019 Grammy Awards and performing at Dollywood. They also recorded songs together for Parton’s 2020 holiday special album A Holly Dolly Christmas.
