Few people get criticized quite as much as Kim Kardashian. This is par for the course, really: she rose to fame as a reality TV star, and she’s had as many haters as fans from the very beginning. After all these years, she has more superfans than ever before, and they have helped support her through a troubled marriage to and subsequent divorce from Kanye West. Of course, she now has more haters than ever before, and they love to criticize anything and everything about this star’s life.
Lately, that includes her parenting style. You see, Kim and Kanye had a child together, North West (get it?). Now, photos of that child has gone viral, and it is making many people claim that Kim is a bad mother. Recently, enough was enough for this celeb, and this Kardashian decided to tell her haters how she really feels. What’s up with the photos? What did the critics say, and how did Kim respond? Keep reading to find out!
Photos of her child goes viral (in the worst possible way)

It feels like just yesterday that North West was a very young child. However, as of this writing, the daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is 12 years old. Like many her age, she spends plenty of time posting pictures and videos of herself to social media. Recently, she posted pictures that showed off how dramatically she had changed her appearance. Inevitably, though, those changes made many around the globe question how effective Kim Kardashian is as a parent.
Just what has this young girl changed about her appearance? She has blue hair now, and a killer manicure has transformed her nails into glitterpop claws. North West has plenty of makeup, and she’s rocking both lip gloss and fake eyelashes. Most strikingly, she now has diamond-covered grills that are designed to make her teeth look like those of a shark!
Obviously, the girl was hoping to make an impression, and it worked: her appearance (from the bright hair to the shining shark teeth) is now instantly recognizable and iconic. But most parents wouldn’t let their own children make drastic changes like this, and this has led to criticisms that Kim Kardashian is too busy trying to be her daughter’s best friend to be an effective parent.
Kim Kardashian strikes back against her critics

The Kardashians now have very different fiefdoms of celebrity influence. For example, Khloe has a successful podcast with the playful name Khloe in Wonderland. Towards the end of last year, Kim Kardashian appeared on her sister’s podcast, and the two talked about a wide variety of issues. At one point, the topic of parenting came up, and Kim used this as an opportunity to put her haters in their place.
Kim said that her haters think, “‘oh, she’s trying to be [North West’s] bestie’ and lets her get away with a lot.” In reality, “Northy actually has a lot of rules. The one area is I do let her express herself, and I do let her do that.” This is where Kim thinks the disconnect is coming: she encourages her daughter to express herself, and her daughter’s crazy aesthetic is a result of that encouragement.
The reality star also pushed back against the idea that her daughter rocking colorful hair is a new development. According to Ki, North West was wearing green braids, pink braids, and even a fake septum ring before she was even in kindergarten. To her, North West’s current appearance (shark teeth and all) is just the final evolution of an aesthetic she has been perfecting her whole life!
What does her child have to say?

On paper, North West really has it easy…after all, when both your parents are rich and famous, you don’t have much to worry about. But she does have to worry about her reputation, and she’s quite annoyed that people have been complaining about her appearance. Rather than solve this problem like Kim Kardashian, though, she solved it like Kanye West: by writing a song!
North West recently released a song, Piercing on My Hand,” that discusses her transgressive appearance and how other people have reacted to it. The lyrics read as follows: “All my friends are hits, you know I’m not lazy/You’re so angry that I’m so mainstream. I’m not sure I’m crazy/I want more piercings and tats/I love blue hair put it in some plaits/Put the music to the max/I want like a hundred thousand racks.”
Based on the lyrics, North West thinks that she is actually creating a new norm, and her haters are just freaked out that she’s become “so mainstream.” At any rate, those lyrics make it clear that she’ll continue tweaking her appearance, and there’s simply nothing her critics can do about it!
