We can gush about their personalities or the causes they donate to, but the real reason most of us fall for celebs is how hot they look in our favorite movies and TV shows. Part of that hotness is their fashion choices…for example, a good onset costume designer can transform an already sexy person into a vision of loveliness. However, when they aren’t on set, these celebs have to dress themselves, and they sometimes make wild choices.
Sometimes, celebs show up to awards shows and they redefine what we see as fashionable. Other times, they take a walk down the street in clothes that make us say, “you really thought that looked good?” For better or for worse, these are the kinds of looks we’ll never forget.
Want some examples, or maybe you just want to see the fashion crimes of Hollywood’s hottest names? Just keep reading to discover the wildest fashion statements from your favorite celebrities!
Madonna’s cone bra

For many of us, Madonna was our first real sex symbol. She didn’t just create the hot tunes that leapt from our radios and cassette players…she also appeared at concerts and in music videos wearing some of the sexiest outfits we had ever seen. And perhaps the most iconic of them all was her cone bras.
Madonna kicked off the ‘90s by wearing corsets with cone bras for many of her performances. It’s a wild look that emphasized her assets and helped solidify her as the ultimate sex symbol for the ages. To this day, this is arguably the most iconic look for one of the most legendary singers in all of musical history!
Kim Kardashian’s see-through boots

Remember when we said not all of these celebrity fashion statements were good choices? Madonna’s choice to rock cone bras ended up transforming her career and redefining what society considered sexy. When Kim Kardashian (a sex symbol in her own right) decided to wear invisible boots, though, she mostly just left the world confused.
In 2016, the reality star rocked some transparent boots. While they did kick off a trend of others wearing see-through footwear, that trend only lasted a few months and abruptly died out. For good reason, too…like, what’s the point of wearing clothing that exposes your body? Why wear invisible boots when you could just wear sandals? To this day, we don’t know what this crazy Kardashian was thinking!
Victoria Beckham’s front-slit trousers

Few celebrities know how to make a fashion statement like Victoria Beckham. After achieving fame as a Spice Girl, she went on to become a famous fashion designer. She loves to wear her own designs, and in 2018, she took the world by storm with her front-slitted trousers.
She actually unveiled an entirely new clothing collection with this gimmick, and the front-slit trousers became a fashion trend in less than 24 hours. It’s not hard to see why, really…after all, this collection pairs colorfully and well-cut pants with a slit that helps to show off a woman’s feet. Just pair it with some designer shoes and you have a killer look that will make all your friends jealous!
Lady Gaga goes big

Real talk: we simply can’t talk about fashionable celebrities without talking about Lady Gaga. She has given us one crazy look after another over the years, but there’s usually a method to her madness. For instance, some of her wildest looks were part of an important message that she was trying to share with the world.
Perhaps the greatest example of this is Lady Gaga’s oversized suit. It may look strange, but the singer described that she wore it after freaking out about the perceived need to wear corsets, feathers, and other feminine-coded clothing designed to please the male gaze. She felt this suit helped her to live her authentic life while also reminding the world that women aren’t just eye candy who exist to please male fantasies.
Jessica Simpson’s high-waisted jeans

Lady Gaga deliberately set out to challenge our ideas about women and women’s fashion with her oversized suit. However, Jessica Simpson ended up challenging female fashion trends more or less by accident when she rocked some high-waisted jeans in 2009. We’re not entirely sure whether she was going more for comfort or more for style, but this look was generally mocked because she was leaning into “mom jeans” at a time when skinny jeans were all the rage.
Some of the criticism she endured was just plain old misogyny, with men mocking how her curvy body looked in these high-waisted jeans. Simpson was hurt by all the criticism, and her pain is a reminder that celebs have feelings and can be hurt by cruel comments as easily as the rest of us. She got the last laugh, though, when the high-waisted jean look she pioneered became super-trendy years later!
