Now that the 2024 Olympic Games have concluded, Simone Biles is an even bigger star than ever before. As always, she didn’t just represent her country…with her skill and amazing abilities, she made America look amazing on the global stage.
However, in an ironic twist, Biles herself doesn’t always look amazing. It turns out that picking out a killer outfit isn’t as easy as pulling off killer gymnastics moves, and she has sometimes rocked some ‘fits that are downright embarrassing.

Not pulling off the sweater/skinny jeans look
Here’s an irony about stylish people: it can actually be very difficult for them to dress for casual events. It’s a fashion tightrope: go too far in one direction and you look uptight…like a person who doesn’t know how to chill out and have fun. Go too far in the other direction and you may look like someone who just rolled out of bed and grabbed whatever clothes were lying on the floor.
We say all this because when Simone Biles went to speak to Piera Gerlardi at the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City in 2020, she was trying to be casual enough for a meet-and-greet with fans and still fancy enough to meet a famous entrepreneur. Unfortunately, the blocky sweater is distracting in terms of both shape and color, and the skinny jeans clashed fiercely while making it look like the Olympian’s fashion sense was woefully dated.
This ESPY dress won’t win any awards
Ever have the feeling that you wore the right outfit to the wrong event? If so, you have at least one thing in common with Simone Biles. In 2017, she attended the ESPY Awards to receive her award for Best Female Athlete. Of course, “best athlete” and “best dressed” are very different things, something instantly proven by her outfit.
Biles wore a blue gown, red belt, and a draping train. The whole thing makes her look a bit like a superhero, and we think she would have been a hit at Comic-Con that year. But outside the world of superheroes, this lopsided dress makes it look like the talented athlete could tilt and fall at any moment.
When sports awards go wrong

This was a big day for the athlete: she was named Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year after her success (she won four gold medals) in the Olympics the previous year. Unfortunately, this is one outfit that won’t be getting the gold anytime soon.
If we only had two words for this outfit, it would be “too much.” The color combo of black, orange, pink, and white clashes, and there are too many patterns competing with one another. Throw in the weird choice to wear sneakers and Biles basically looks like a psychedelic ‘90s computer screensaver with legs!
When orange was not her color
The phrase “orange is the new black” went from being the name of a book (and TV show) to being a general fashion statement. After all, the color always stands out and never fails to make a statement. Unfortunately, when Simone Biles attended the Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Breakfast in 2016, the statement she made was basically “I don’t know how to dress.”
The orange pantsuit and white button-up were likely intended to look business casual, and she tried to fancy it up a bit with flourishes like pleated pants and pushed-up sleeves. But the overall visual effect was that of a traveling salesman…she looked like someone desperate to sell us something instead of someone confident in her abilities and accomplishments.
A not so ‘Glamour’-ous dress
Looking back, 2016 was a big year for Simone Biles. Among many other achievements, she was invited to the Glamour Women Of The Year event in Los Angeles. This was going to be a chance to strut her stuff and show the world just how dazzling she could truly be.
Unfortunately, she fizzled rather than sizzled at this event. A black and blue dress may have sounded really good on paper, but the asymmetrical design made this look more confusing than cute. The whole thing looks like a wrap dress that breaks the rules in the ugly possible way. Just like that, “glamour” turned to “gaudy!”
The kids had no choice about this outfit
Simone Biles is popular with many demographics, including teenagers. Proof of this is that in 2017, she won Favorite Female Athlete of the Year at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards. When she went to receive her award, we got a good look at the fuschia mini-dress, and we have to be brutally honest…the more we look at this, the more we hate it.
Even if Biles could pull off the dress, the fact that she blends into the purple background would make this a fashion fail. But we’re also thrown off by Biles’ looking like a mummy in colorful wrapping. Maybe she’s secretly referencing what everyone is thinking: this outfit is scarier than a horror movie!
