Pretty Woman is one of those movies that instantly connects people. Once you discover someone else is a fan of this classic film, classic lines of dialogue help you to speak a kind of common tongue. And the most dedicated fans can effortlessly recite every single line of dialogue from beginning to end.

But what if there was dialogue you had never heard? Most fans don’t realize that Pretty Woman has a number of deleted scenes that can only be watched on DVD or Blu-Ray. These scenes do more than give us a better look at these characters…in some cases, they completely change the film.

Don’t believe it? Keep reading to discover the Pretty Woman deleted scenes that completely transform this beloved movie.

An extended first meeting

Not all of the deleted scenes in Pretty Woman are entirely new scenes. For example, one of them simply extends the existing scene where Edward and Vivian first meet. This doesn’t exactly break new ground for our characters, but it does help us to appreciate them more.

That’s because this first meeting helped establish the chemistry between these characters. It’s fair to say that chemistry is the glue that holds the entire movie together. Getting to see more of how their sparks were flying from the very beginning was enough to make us look at the rest of the movie in an entirely new light.

A very scary scene involving a pimp

Not all of the deleted scenes in Pretty Woman are about chemistry, however. For example, one cut scene has the pimp Carlos trying to get money from Vivian. It’s money that Kit owes him, and poor Vivian is just caught right in the middle.

Some don’t like this scene because they don’t like to be reminded of how bleak and scary Vivian’s life really was. However, we actually like this scene because it’s so scary…it gives Vivian a kind of arc, showcasing why she is so grateful to leave this dangerous life behind. And we can better appreciate her Happily Ever After because we saw all the heartbreaking misery leading up to it.

Wild, wild horses

Even among those who hate the Pretty Woman deleted scenes, there is one that most fans think should have been left in the movie. That’s the scene where Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are riding horses together. Their chemistry is on full display here, and the horses make every frame of this scene look like it could have been the cover of a romance novel.

We can understand the desire to cut this scene due to time. However, in a perfect world, it would have been left in the movie to show the connection between these characters blossoming in an unexpected way. Plus, if we’re being honest, we just love horses and would love to see more of them in the cinema.

The John Ritter connection

There’s another horse-related deleted scene in Pretty Woman. And while it isn’t as memorable as the first one, it does have a pretty wild Hollywood connection. The scene takes place at a polo match and features Elizabeth telling Philip that she is about to take a ride with the Ritters.

Here’s where things get a little weird. You see, Elizabeth is played by Amy Yasbeck, someone who would go on to marry famous actor John Ritter. Now, whenever we watch this deleted scene, we can’t help but think Yasbeck’s character is about to go spend time with the family of her future husband!

Funny TV edits

Pretty Woman is one of the most popular movies in the world. As such, it has been shown on TV quite a bit. Of course, the movie has some very naughty dialogue which required editing before it can be shown on family-friendly networks. And that has led to some downright hilarious TV edits that always make us laugh.

For example, everyone knows the classic scene where Kit utters the line “Cinde-f**kin’-rella.” The TV edit simply has her saying Cinderella, and it was even re-shot without the vulgarity as opposed to simply having the new line dubbed over the old one.

On top of that, Kit has another hilarious line in the movie that got severely transformed for television. Her line “50 bucks, Grampa. For 75 the wife can watch” is transformed instead to “My grandmother has curtains just like that.” Sure, it doesn’t make much sense, but it does make us cackle with laughter every time.

Is the Pretty Woman director’s cut worth it?

It’s possible to simply watch the Pretty Woman deleted scenes online (check out the video near the top of the page!). However, you can also watch the Director’s Cut with these scenes inserted seamlessly back into the movie. That leads to the big question: is this director’s cut worth watching?

In our opinion, you’re better off just watching the scenes online. The deleted stuff is neat, but it doesn’t change the movie enough to merit buying it yet again. Of course, if you do want to double-dip into this Julia Roberts classic, we’d be the last ones to ever judge you!
