Sex and the City was a breakout TV show when it premiered on HBO. After all, it was one of the only shows on television that was willing to have frank discussions of and even portrayals of sexual activity. In a world that was far more conservative and far less online, it’s fair to say that more than a few viewers heard about various sexual activities for the very first time thanks to this show.
Fortunately, Sex and the City was a comedy, so it couched many of these sexual matters into side-splittingly funny scenes. And that combination of comedy and vulgarity combined with the drama between our hilarious leads to create some wild and unexpected moments that we are still thinking about decades later.
Don’t believe it? Or maybe you’d just like to enjoy a few crazy moments while reliving the glory days of this TV show? Either way, keep reading to discover the craziest moments on Sex and the City!
Hunky mud fight

Some of the crazier moments in Sex and the City don’t explicitly deal with sex. For example, in the episode “Belles of the Balls,” Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie is dating Aidan, but that doesn’t keep her from inviting her ex, Mr. Big, over to her current boyfriend’s house. Needless to say, things get out of hand almost right away.
Once these two men start arguing, logic goes out the window while testosterone completely takes over. All of this culminates in the two men having an honest-to-God mudfight that left some viewers wondering what the heck Carrie thought was going to happen. As for the rest of the audience, they just sat back and enjoyed the dirty display on their TV!
Charlotte and the slut debate

Arguably, Sex and the City’s greatest cultural impact is that it put countless people more at ease when talking about sex. And it did this through the simple expedient of having its own characters have similarly honest conversations about sex and sexuality. One of the best examples of this comes from the episode “Are We Sluts,” where Carrie wonders whether there is a magic number of sexual partners one can have over time that would make a woman officially a “slut.”
At the same time, Charlotte is dealing with a new boyfriend who likes to call her that and other dirty names in bed. She begins to worry that he might be right and that being a so-called slut might keep her from someday finding the right guy and settling down. Fortunately, both Carrie and Charlotte learned that they shouldn’t tie their own value to what others have to say about them.
Honestly, we wish more people (especially young people) could internalize this idea and have a happier and healthier love life!
Miranda’s marathon man gets especially naughty

When Sex and the City first aired, watching our main characters have lunch together often felt wonderfully transgressive. That’s because they were often talking about sexual matters that seemed taboo. For example, in the episode “Baby, Talk Is Cheap,” Miranda expresses concern to her gal pals that her new boyfriend is into analingus (or, as the show charmingly calls it, “tuchus lingus”).
This was already a topic that wouldn’t pop up on any other TV show at the time. But what made the scene so great is the other characters’ opinions on how they feel about the activity, even as they lamented men’s recent fascination with women’s rear ends. Full of honesty and comedy, this scene made us wish we could be so open with our own friends about what goes on in the bedroom.
Miranda choking on Chinese

Ironically enough, some of the craziest Sex and the City scenes have nothing to do with sex. For our money, the best example of this occurs in the episode “Four Women and a Funeral.” Poor Miranda was already freaking out when she learned that her apartment’s previous occupant died and that nobody found the body for a week because the person was single.
Soon enough, her fears come to life when she starts choking on some Chinese food takeout. Fortunately, she manages to save herself, but the whole thing is very touch-and-go. Just like that, our naughty little comedy show reminded us how easily one of our favorite characters could die!
Lexi’s fatal fall

Every now and then, Sex and the City played for keeps. A killer (literally) example of this occurs in the episode fittingly titled “Splat!” In it, fan-favorite character Lexi Featherstone complains that New York just isn’t as much fun these days. That’s when she is forcibly reminded of just how unpredictable the city can be.
In short order, Lexi twists her ankle, loses her balance, and falls through a window, falling several stories to a rather nasty death. Previously, Lexi said that the city was boring her to death. She left the show riding a wave of morbidly hilarious irony…and as you can tell, she left riding the express elevator to the bottom floor!
