10 Celebrity Prenups That Went Above and Beyond

We like to think of marriage as “happily ever after.” It’s what the fairytales all promised: two people spending the rest of their days in blissful matrimony.

But reality is a lot messier than fairytales. The average marriage is actually likelier to end in divorce rather than a storybook ending. Because of this, wealthy celebrities often craft airtight prenuptial agreements to help protect their assets.

And some of these prenups are downright crazy. Keep reading to discover some of the wildest celebrity prenups ever made!

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are the biggest celebrity divorce story of 2021. And it looks like the prenup they signed all those years ago is about to be put to good use!

The prenup promised Kim Kardashian a million dollars for every year they were married, though this capped out at $10 million. And Kanye went out of his way to add a clause that Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, couldn’t make decisions affecting the couple.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got engaged in 2002, it felt like these two movie stars were creating a real multimedia empire. But they didn’t actually get married, and many people think it’s because of the wild prenup that they came up with.

We know the prenup would have given Lopez half of Affleck’s earnings if he cheated on her (arguably a good precaution, given his history of adultery). Some rumors even claim Affleck wanted $5 million to marry Lopez and a minimum of four sexual encounters a week built into the prenup!

Crazier still are the reports that Affleck and Lopez may be getting back together after all these years!

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez

When one spouse is more rich and famous than the other, divorce gets that much scarier. Just one bad breakup can lead to a star losing millions and millions of dollars.

Perhaps that’s why Halle Berry put her foot down with Olivier Martinez. The prenup she made him sign before their 2013 marriage specified that there would be no spousal support and no assets would be split between them. So when the two of them ended up divorcing in 2015, Martinez didn’t get a single cent from Berry’s earnings!

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux

It looks like Jennifer Aniston took a page out of Halle Berry’s playbook. After her bitter divorce from Brad Pitt, Aniston wanted to lay down the law when she married Justin Theroux in 2015.

That’s why their prenup specified that in the event of a divorce, each party’s assets would remain their own. In this case, Aniston was worth about 10 times as much as Justin Theroux. And when they did end up getting divorced in 2018, all of her money was fully protected.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

In terms of famous couples, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have been married for a very long time (since 2012). But this doesn’t mean that Biel isn’t worried about Timberlake fooling around!

In their prenup, it specifies that Biel would get $500,000 every time Timberlake cheated. That may seem like chump change for this wealthy power couple, but it showcases that Biel was worried about Timberlake having an affair from the very beginning.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan

In their own way, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have the weirdest prenup on this list. That’s because it doesn’t actually involve money!

Considering that Zuckerberg is worth over $66 billion dollars, you might think Chan wanted a prenup guaranteeing a certain chunk of that change. Instead, the prenup specifies that they get a minimum of 100 minutes of alone time as well as at least one date night per week.

Oh, and Zuckerberg’s not allowed to use Facebook during their couples time. Honestly, this is a rule that all couples should adopt!

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

If we’re being honest, the marriage between Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones has always been a bit eyebrow-raising due to the 25-year age gap. And while they have been married for the better part of two decades (since 2000), they have a prenup that really favors Zeta-Jones.

Part of the prenup specifies that she would get $2.8 million for every year they were married. What’s more, she would get an extra $5 million anytime Michael Douglas cheated on her.

Honestly, this is probably a better way to keep him in line than an icepick ever was.

Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving

Steven Spielberg is known for his detailed and perfectly-planned movies. And that’s what makes his botched attempt at a prenup with actress Amy Irving so strange.

In a move so bizarre it sounds like the plot of a movie, Spielberg tried to protect his assets with a prenup written on a napkin. When he left Irving for another woman four years after they got married, he found out the hard way that a napkin is not a legally-binding document.

Because of this, Irving got half of his assets at the time of their 1989 divorce: a cool $100 million!

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren

Elin Nordegren should probably get a medal for making the most out of a bad situation. In this case, the bad situation was her 2004 marriage to famous golfer Tiger Woods.

The original prenup promised that Nordegren would get $20 million in the event of a divorce. After Tiger Woods’ highly-publicized series of affairs, she ended up walking away with $110 million when they divorced in 2010. Three years later, Woods reportedly wanted to remarry Nordegren and offered her a juicier new prenup of $200 million. But Nordegren decided they were better off apart.

Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris

There has arguably never been a more famous womanizer and self-styled “ladies’ man” than Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. So when Playboy model Crystal Harris married him in 2012 despite a 60-year age gap, many thought that she was just in it for the money.

But that’s apparently not true. The prenup they signed specified that she would get none of Hefner’s $200 million fortune nor the famous Playboy mansion. Adding insult to injury, the prenup actually specified she’d be kicked out of the mansion in the event of divorce or Hefner’s death.

In the end, Hefner purchased Harris a home of her own in 2013 worth $5 million so she’d be taken care of when he passed away. Hefner died in 2017.
