A Timeline of Kim Kardashian’s Dating History

For fans of the celebrity couple, it feels like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been splitting up forever. Sure, she only filed for divorce in February. But rumors of a split go back to last year, thanks in part to Kanye’s outbursts during his brief bid for the presidency.

However, this isn’t the first tricky romance that Kim Kardashian has had to navigate. In fact, she has had a very complicated romantic history leading up to her marriage (and divorce) from Kanye West.

To really understand Kim’s heart, you need to know her dating history. And we’ve got the full timeline right here!

2000–2003: Damon Thomas

It’s possible that Kim Kardashian wanted to be an entertainer from a very young age. When she was only 19, she eloped with music producer Damon Thomas in 2000. This ended up being one of her longer romances, but the two got divorced in 2003.

2003–2006: Ray J

Of all Kim Kardashian’s former flames, Ray J may be the most notorious. The two dated from 2003 to 2006, and they largely kept to themselves. But at one time, they recorded a sex tape together that leaked in 2007.

Oddly enough, the popularity of this leaked tape helped make Kim Kardashian famous. And to this day, some speculate that she or Kris Jenner helped leak the tape, even though Kim ended up suing the company who released it.

2006: Nick Lachey

There was a brief window in 2006 where Kim dated Nick Lachey. This was after Lachey’s divorce from Jessica Simpson. But on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2019, Lachey claimed that they only went on one date. He also thinks Kim had ulterior motives for going to see The Da Vinci Code with him.

“She left about halfway through and went to the restroom and, shockingly, there were 25 paparazzi when we left the theater,” Lachey said. “So I think there were other things in play on our little rendezvous.”

2006–2007: Nick Cannon

The sex tape with Ray J might have made Kim Kardashian famous, but it occasionally disrupted her love life. For example, she started dating rapper Nick Cannon in September 2006, and the two seemed very happy together for a few months. But they broke up in January 2007 over Kim reportedly lying about the existence of the infamous sex tape.

“This was my issue. We talked about this tape… and she told me there was no tape,” Cannon said on The Howard Stern Show in 2012 (via The Huffington Post). “If she might have been honest with me I might have tried to hold her down and be like ‘That was before me’ because she is a great girl. She’s actually one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. But the fact that she lied and told me that there was no tape? And I still think she might have even had a part to play with [its release].”

2007–2010: Reggie Bush

So far, most of Kim’s romantic partners were part of the music industry. But she changed things up when she started dating NFL player Reggie Bush. The two dated between 2007 and 2010, but it was nothing serious: they dated very intermittently before splitting up for good.

2010: Miles Austin

Kim may have broken up with Reggie Bush, but that didn’t mean she was ready to stop dating football players! In the summer of 2010, she began dating Dallas Cowboys player Miles Austin. Compared to Bush, this was a short relationship: the two split up by September of that year.

2010: Shengo Deane

Were things ever that serious between Kim and Shengo Deane? Probably not. Deane served as her bodyguard in 2010 to help keep Kim safe while she filmed Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Eventually, he became part of the show when Kim kissed him on camera in season five.

Interestingly, she declared this to be the “best kiss ever.” At this point, Kim had several exes and even an ex-husband that were probably offended by her playful declaration!

2010: Gabriel Aubry

In 2010, Kim dated Gabriel Aubry for a brief time. Aubry is a model and the ex-boyfriend of Halle Berry. While Kim and Gabriel met through friends and seemed to have fun together, the relationship didn’t last very long before each of them moved on.

2010–2011: Kris Humphries

The term “whirlwind romance” gets tossed around quite a bit. But it seems to be the best description of Kim Kardashian’s time with Brooklyn Nets player Kris Humphries.

They first began dating in October 2010. Things moved fast, and they were engaged by May 2011. On August 20, 2011, they got married in a jaw-dropping ceremony in Montecito, California.

But it wasn’t meant to be. Only 72 days after getting married, the two split up. Kim filed for divorce on October 31, kicking off some pretty nasty divorce proceedings. Humphries went so far as to say that Kim actually committed fraud by agreeing to marry him!

The court battle lasted far longer than their marriage. They didn’t settle their celebrity split until April 19, 2013.

2012-2021: Kanye West

Despite her high-profile dating history, no partner of Kim’s will ever be as notorious as Kanye West. Kim and Kanye began dating in April 2012, and in December, Kim announced she was pregnant. The two of them welcomed their first daughter North West into the world in June 2013. Nearly a year later, they got married in May 2014.

Over the next few years, they welcomed more children into their family. This included Saint in 2015, Chicago in 2018, and Psalm in 2019. And Kim and Kanye seemed very happy together as they grew their family.

But things began to unravel in 2020 when Kanye inexplicably decided to run for president. On top of the normal stress this might cause a marriage, he aired their dirty laundry at a presidential rally in Charleston, South Carolina on July 19, 2020.

At one point, a weeping Kanye admitted that he had tried to get Kim to abort their first child. This created a wedge between the couple that only grew over time.

In February 2021, Kim filed for divorce from Kanye. And both of them are still dealing with the personal and legal fallout of that decision.
