Dakota Johnson nearly gets “breast in show”
The thing about most of these wardrobe malfunctions is that the stars can’t anticipate them or prevent them from happening. All anyone can control is what they do and say afterward. When it comes to handling embarrassment like this with style and grace, it doesn’t get much better than Dakota Johnson accepting her award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress at the People’s Choice Awards.
When she went to accept her award, Leslie Mann accidentally unzipped Johnson’s crop top while going for a hug. This nearly caused her breasts to fall out, but instead of being embarrassed, she joked about the moment during her acceptance speech. “It’s not like nobody here hasn’t already seen my boobs,” which referred to the fact that she was accepting the award after her performance in the highly-erotic and nudity-filled 50 Shades of Grey.
Nicki Minaj spilling out of her dress
Nicki Minaj was right at home at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards…at first. She was just getting easy to go on stage and link up with Ariana Grande and Jessie J. To sing their smash hit “Bang Bang.” So far, so good, right?
However, during the performance, she only had a minute to change out of the outfit she had worn to perform “Anaconda.” At the last minute (literally), she realized her fellow performers were wearing black and white clothing, so she wanted to avoid wearing a green bra that would stand out. She tried to change into a black dress and made it in time, but when her team went to zip it up, the zip didn’t work properly.
The final result was that she had to sing while holding her dress up, but that didn’t keep her from delivering an amazing performance!
A strapping award for Katherine Heigl
In 2010, Katherine Heigl’s career was going better than it ever had before. This led her to receive a special award at the ShoWest Awards. When she went to accept the award, however, it was very nearly the fans watching at home who accepted a very special offering from Heigl.
As she accepted the award for Female Star of the Year, Heigl faced the nightmare scenario of her dress’s left strap breaking. That left her body trying to come right out of the dress, but Heigl was a complete pro. With a little help from Billy Bush, she was able to hold up her dress, hold up her award, and even deliver a killer speech.
Chrissy Teigen gets betrayed by her dress
Chrissy Teigen famously has a solid sense of humor, and that really came in handy at the 2016 American Music Awards. Deciding she wanted to dress to impress that night, Teigen wore a black dress designed by Yousef Akbar, and she was already drawing plenty of looks as soon as she stepped on the red carpet. It was the inevitable wardrobe malfunction, however, that ended up making everyone’s jaws drop.
The dress prominently featured high slits, and the only thing protecting Teigen’s modesty was a tiny gold pin. The pin wasn’t up to the task and the entire world got a glimpse of the star’s bikini area (minus the bikini). Rather than be mortified, Teigen went on social media and jokingly apologized for anyone mortified by the sight of her private parts and cheekily tagged the name of her laser hair removal specialist while doing so!
Venus Williams slips right out of her dress
At the 2022 Academy Awards, Venus Williams made quite the impression. Seated next to her sister (and fellow tennis legend) Serena Williams, Venus just wanted to sit back and enjoy the show. The last thing she expected was for her stunning Elie Saab gown to betray her at the worst possible time.
Venus ended up having a good, old-fashioned nip slip, and her attempt to solve the problem by covering her exposed flesh with her right arm did nothing to hide what was really going on. Fortunately, the moment passed quickly enough, and both the Williams sisters got to enjoy the rest of the show, including acclaim for King Richard, the movie about their lives.

During the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, Taylor Swift turned heads with her fashion choice, though not necessarily for the reasons she intended. The singer-songwriter graced the red carpet in a breathtaking gown adorned with feathers, intricate beading, and an elegant asymmetrical full sleeve, reminiscent of classic Hollywood glamour. However, it was the gown’s daring high slit that stole the spotlight, revealing more than Swift may have anticipated as she climbed the stairs to accept her award.
