When you write about the Royal Family for a living, you get used to this famous family making one crazy decision after another. That doesn’t mean you don’t get surprised from time to time, though. For example, we were absolutely shocked to discover that Harry and Meghan were moving back to England. Previously, their decision to flee and start a new life in America caused endless drama. At the time, the general consensus was that they had burned too many bridges with the royals and effectively had nowhere left to go but Meghan’s old stomping grounds.
With that being said, their decision to suddenly move back to England is kind of crazy. Like, why move to America in the first place if you’re just coming back to the UK a few years later? For that matter, why piss off the Royal Family so much for no real reason? So far, Harry and Meghan haven’t said much about why they are returning, and this has led to one rumor after another about their motivation. One aspect that surprised many about Harry and Meghan was their swift acceptance of media deals after relocating to America. They reached deals with Spotify for a podcast, Netflix for a docuseries, and Penguin Random House for Harry’s tell-all memoir. What motivated these two to fully commit to these media deals? As Harry has pointed out before, his father cut him off even before they left England. These media deals allowed the two of them to continue living a life of luxury, even though they don’t have access to the family’s purse strings.
What does this have to do with their decision to move back to England? Some royal fans believe that their media deals fell through. For example, we know that their $20 million deal with Spotify died after they produced only 13 episodes over three years, causing Spotify exec Bill Simmons to call them “grifters.” Now, insiders are claiming that Netflix wants to stop working with Harry and Meghan because they are so difficult. With all these media deals falling through, these two might be heading back to England because they failed to make it in America!
Begging daddy for money
That leads fairly directly to the next big rumor: that Harry and Meghan are moving back to England because they are going to beg King Charles to give them money. This rumor is propped up by one insider who told Ok! Magazine that Harry has already told his father about the financial struggles he is experiencing. Considering that Harry has a history of asking his dad for help, many think that pattern is about to repeat itself.
Just how are Harry and Meghan blowing through all their cash, though? Some of it is due to their many business ventures; you have to spend money to make money, after all, and without the royal coffers, they just don’t have as much to spend. Speaking of spending, they also pay a small fortune for a private security detail because the royals refused to foot the bill. Throw in the two of them living it up like they still have access to the famous family’s money, and you have a recipe for financial failure.
An attempt to save their marriage
Do you prefer your rumors on the spicier end? In that case, buckle up! While Harry and Meghan have always projected themselves as the ultimate power couple, there have been reports for many years that their marriage is seriously strained. In addition to numerous alarming signs, such as Harry reportedly having a second home at a nearby hotel, insider reports indicate that he dislikes living in California and would prefer to return to England.
Ironically, he’s in the same position now that Meghan was in when they first married. Other insiders claim that she really didn’t want to leave America, but she knew that doing so was the cost of marrying into royalty. Now, knowing that Harry hates life in California, insiders are claiming that Meghan is going along with the move to England to keep her marriage intact. Otherwise, constant resentment on Harry’s end could potentially destroy it.
Rejoining the Royal Family
All of this has led to perhaps the craziest rumor of them all: that Harry and Meghan want to rejoin the Royal Family. Why would they do that, though? The short, cynical answer is that this could solve almost all of their financial problems. If they become working royals again, they are more likely to regularly receive money from King Charles. Additionally, returning to such service might win over Prince William, finally ending the feud between brothers.
Speaking of William, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes king. Some have speculated that Harry and Meghan returned to England because Charles doesn’t have much time to live. In that case, coming back to England as a working royal will help Harry and Meghan project the image that the British people will need after their monarch dies: complete and utter solidarity.
