Love Scenes Actors Regretted Filming

There are few things as captivating on film as a love scene. It’s not hard to see why: movies are filled with some of the hottest people on the planet, and it can be good, clean fun watching a couple of them get down and dirty together.

However, you may be surprised to learn of one group that often hates these love scenes: the actors themselves! Very often, filming a love scene is the worst part of the movie for the snagging celebs.

Don’t believe it? Here is our roundup of onscreen romps that actors seriously regret ever filming!

Fifty shades of “nay”

Fifty Shades of Grey is probably the most overtly sexual bit of media on this list. For the most part, the other movies and shows were filled with action and drama, and the love scenes were a fun “extra” for audiences. But with Fifty Shades of Gray, the sexy scenes were the big draw for audiences.

They were much less appealing to the main actors, though. Jamie Dornan, for example, seems very embarrassed the movies even exist. As he told The Irish Sun, “A part of me still can’t really believe I did those films. There’s an element in me that’s going, ‘why did they make movies out of those books?” He also clarified to The Guardian that “There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn’t be seeing my, um…”

Interestingly, Dakota Johnson was no less thrilled with shooting these movies. As she bluntly told Time, “Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment. It’s just sweaty and it’s not very comfortable.” And subsequent movies didn’t change her mind. As she told Entertainment Tonight, “Over the course of the three films, it never got easier. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, this old thing,’ you know?”

She wasn’t the queen of the world

Titanic basically redefined what a romantic movie can be. And some of its steamy scenes became the stuff of meme legend, including Kate Winslet’s Rose asking Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack to paint her like one of his “French girls.”

But this scene ended up haunting Winslet for a particularly icky reason. She dished about this in an interview with Yahoo! According to Winslet, “There’s a photo of it as well that someone has lifted from a still of the film, and that photo gets passed around too. I’m like ‘No! I didn’t mean for it to be a photograph that I would end up seeing still 17 years later.’ It’s still haunting me.”

Sadly, we’re going to think of this unfortunate story every time we watch Titanic. Still, our love for this movie will definitely go on.

It was tough being the Mother of Dragons

Emilia Clark took the world by storm when Game of Thrones premiered. After all, she had had barely been on screen before that hit show. Unfortunately, that meant she didn’t always feel comfortable speaking up for herself, especially when the show’s sexy scenes required her to take off her clothes.

She discussed this in a candid interview with The Guardian. “I’d been on a film set twice before then, and I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me.”

This story has a positive ending, though. She stopped getting nude for other parts and, according to the Hollywood Reporter, turned down the lead role in Fifty Shades of Gray. That’s probably a good idea because her Thrones character was the “breaker of chains,” and that wouldn’t work in movies focused around bondage!

This “passenger” wanted to disembark

A major part of acting is fully inhabiting a different role. But Jennifer Lawrence always has one foot in the real world. That helped her charm everyone as Hollywood’s girl next door, but it got in the way when she had to film a love scene with Chris Pratt in Passengers.

As she told The Hollywood Reporter, “I got really, really drunk. But then that led to more anxiety when I got home because I was like, ‘What have I done? I don’t know.'”

She didn’t have a problem with Pratt, though…at least, not directly. “It was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach. And I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that.”

He rarely felt “in sync”

Justin Timberlake is an amazing musician, but many were surprised to discover his acting skills in Friends With Benefits. Alongside Mila Kunis, he helped craft a funny and insightful look at the modern world of sex and relationships.

But Timberlake didn’t exactly love the onscreen sexual exploits. As he told the BBC, “It’s actually kind of annoying, you’re there for 12 hours, it’s exhausting. All those scenes revolve around the dialogue and physical humor is so tiring.”

Timberlake also said the shooting made him feel old. But honestly, a 12-hour workday would drain even a very young man, so we won’t ask him to cry us a river.

Another example of “friends with benefits”

Sure, Mila Kunis may have filmed love scenes for a movie called Friends With Benefits. But another movie taught her that sex (even simulated sex) with actual friends gets really weird, really quickly!

That movie was Black Swan, which she filmed with real-life friend Natalie Portman. As reported by HuffPost, she dished to reporters that, “It’s hard to have a sex scene, period. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend, a male, a female. You’re with 100-something crew members, lighting you, repositioning you, there’s no comfort whatsoever.”

On top of that, filming with a friend was a double-edged sword. It helped make their onscreen chemistry downright electric. But it made their iconic love scene that much weirder for the both of them.

A love scene that really “bites”

Literature lovers often lament how difficult it is to translate awesome book moments to awesome onscreen moments. And nobody understands that better than Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, especially when it came to her epic love scene with Robert Pattinson.

She explained the issue to Harper’s Bazaar. “On Twilight, we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time,” she shared. “It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine.”

Continuing, she said that “we were so self-consciously aware of that, me and Rob and the producers. It was agony.” Throw in the fact that she and Pattinson were actually in a relationship and things were that much more awkward!

Not so great ‘Sex and the City’

Some actors on this list were probably surprised when they saw a love scene in the script. That wasn’t the case for Kim Cattrall, though, who played the friskier character on Sex and The City, which was once the most provocative show on TV.

But Cattrall hates one love scene with an actor she refused to name. As the Daily Mail reports, she told Piers Morgan that “I was working with an actor and we were doing the scene, and he is on top of me, and then he collapsed — and then he farted.” She later discovered that the passing out (and perhaps the gas) was due to a special diet, but we have to agree with her final assessment: “it was pretty gross.”
